The following summer we completed the photographic tour of the Desolation Wilderness Area, a region that statistically is one of the most frequented in the nation because of its relatively easy accessibility and classic High Sierra landscapes. This second book was a little longer with the bonus addition of topographic maps of the entire area. Some of the lakes in this region are more remote and seldom visited in spite of our background of sixty years of summer hiking in the area. It turned out to be a wonderful and memorable project and might not have ever happened if it hadnʻt been for a casual comment from the Forest Service!
